Recap: July Breast Cancer Support Group

The Breast Cancer Support Group for the month of July was another success. Although the meeting was close to the holiday weekend, the group still decided to come and shared stories in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere.

Over the past six months the women part of the Breast Cancer Support Group have become dedicated to supporting each other. Each member brings a unique story and experience, with different traditional cancer treatments in Michigan and other areas, different cancer doctors and cancer physicians and even alternative cancer treatments in Michigan and other areas. With these different experiences come different situations, memories and ways of managing the disease and treatment. Normally 15 women meet together and listen to a guest speaker, or they share their own personal stories and lean on each other for insight.

One of the group leaders, Tanya Lesinkski, RD, CSO states that "Breast cancer survivors are phenomenal people that are capable of doing just about anything – including starting, supporting and growing a support group with very little help from the medical team."

The group is continuing to grow and looks forward to all new members for the August meeting. Remember to call 231-757-1260 to reserve your spot and this meeting is completely free of charge!
