Support and Resources

The Complementary and Integrative Medicine (CIM) team is a division of the cancer and blood center. Meeting with the CIM team is an optional part of treatment. The team is made up of Physician Director and Internist Susan Henry, oncology certified nurse Kay Kessel, registered dietitian Tanya Lesinski, certified acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist Margaret Batzer, certified massage therapist and certified Reiki master teacher Molly Wolfe, and certified massage therapist and wellness educator Colleen Avedisian. The goal of the CIM team professionals is to assess the patient’s overall quality of life and treat the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—by providing a comfortable environment in which patients and their families feel welcome to discuss additions to ‘traditional’ cancer treatment and make informed decisions regarding treatment. The CIM team reviews your medical information to make sure that complementary therapies do not conflict with any other medication you may be taking; they are happy to discuss any supplements, vitamins, or minerals with you in an open and informative atmosphere. As with all treatment at the cancer center, the CIM team emphasizes that any treatment they recommend to you as patients is the same as they would recommend to their own loved ones. To set up your CIM team appointment, call 231-757-1260, or stop by the front desk.
